Chapter One
Daniel wanted to throw up as he entered the Castillo Resort and Hotel, Grand
Turk. Everything was lush and beautiful, as gorgeous as the white sand beaches
of the island.
I shouldn’t be here. What the hell was Madame Eve thinking?
The place spoke of style and class, two things he lacked. Drawing a deep breath
filled with the aromas of salt air and tropical plants, he stepped to the reception
desk and struggled not to lose the measly lunch he’d had on the plane.
A beautiful, dark-eyed girl smiled at him. “Welcome to Grand Turk. Checking
in?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Does she know about the one-night stand? Does she think I’m
ridiculous?
“Daniel Long.” He slid his ID across the marble counter and acted as
though he didn’t want to run screaming from the place.
Laughter poured through the open courtyard as two young boys chased one
another around the pool and their mother pretended not to worry when they
stepped too close to the edge. The scene tore at his heart. He turned away to stare
toward the valet area as cars came and went—people spilling out with obvious
excitement or piling in, grumbling about a week too short.
“Mr. Long? I need your signature.”
He blinked at the tears that burned and pasted on a fake smile for the brown-
skinned beauty. “Sorry. This place is stunning.”
“Isn’t it? I honestly can’t believe I work here most days.” She slid a keycard
across the table and held up a black leather band with a silver strip in the middle.
“If I may.”
He offered her his wrist and she snapped the all-inclusive ID in place; the last
hole barely met the tab. The buckle bit into his skin. “Do I have to wear this?”
“It tells the staff that you’re in one of the exclusive suites and gives you
unlimited access to any part of the resort as well as all the food and beverages you
would like.” A scowl marred her delicate features. “It does look a little tight
though. Just a moment. I’ll call Mr. Castillo.”
